The 22nd round of I league match 2011 -2012
between Mohunbagan and Dempo SC will be an interesting one to decide the champion
of this edition of I league. Dempo SC having 46 points from 21 outings is
presently leading the table whereas Mohunbagan is standing fourth with 38
points from as many matches. Kingfisher Eastbengal and Salgaoncar are holding
the 2nd and 3rd spot with 41 and 39 points while playing
one game more. A five point lead with one game in hand seems a comfortable lead
for Dempo SC, but they have to play Mohonbagan and KEB back to back at Kolkata
which is not an easy task. KEB and Mohonbagan have easier opponent to play
while Dempo SC have to take tougher sides.
If Mohonbagan and KEB can manage to beat Dempo SC back to
back then I league will be an open to all competition once again though Dempo
will have a slender margin of 2 points over them. Tomorrows match is a very
crucial match in terms of title chase as well as a battle for honor. The first
leg in Goa between these two was an uneven contest. Mohonbagan lost to Dempo SC
five goals to nil in the away game. But now the scenario has changed, that time
Subrata Bhattyacharya was just taken over from Steave Derby and he was
struggling with players’ fitness. Now the team has got the desired shape and
most importantly the goal machine Odafa is in form. Apart from the Sunil
Chettry controversy and injured Rakesh Massi everything seems to be alright for
them. Hope this time it will be an even contest.
